It baffles me how anyone could bless off on this chair that is an average sized male. It is clearly only going to be comfortable for children or small framed females. I tried it for 10 minutes before the pinching on my thighs and under my arm pits from the top and bottom became too unbearable. I’m sticking with my REI Air- lighter, cheaper, more comfortable.

Something that traumatic, you kinda have to find the humor in it. I was a combat medic and got hurt pretty bad. People ask what happened and I just say, I had a rough day at the office and got blown up. My office was a desert and we got hit by an IED, 37 broken bones 🦴 later, physical therapy, a lot of surgeries, I can walk pretty decent on a good day. Kudos to this fella, to go through that and survive, have a sense of humor and to do something for PTSD, congratulations sir. Well done

My tried and true is to just drink the water. 😅 sure, it's survivor's bias, but I've also never gotten sick.

south rim to north rim in a day, in the winter, is crazy. i did Bright Angel to the river and back in a day at 48 but I had been doing much, much vertical hiking for years and been "training" for it. Even so, it was a lot.. I was tired reaching the river at pipe creek beach and not knowing exactly how far it was to the river, I almost turned around before hitting it. A group going up said it was right around the corner, it wasn't, it was several corners, but I pushed on. After a 30 minute rest at the bottom I headed back up. Was happy to get to Indian Gardens (name back then), and rested good. But then next/final 3000 vertical from there was brutal. Maybe it was partially being at a higher elevation. Maybe it was I just hadn't done anything so big before, but it was slow going. my right knee had some pain for awhile, and the pain just started spreading out more and more, both up and down my leg. Even so, I was a small bit faster than a lot of the other hikers, who looked in worse shape - Even though i felt in poor condition. I was very, very happy to reach the top of Bright Angel. Some ppl where there clapping when ppl came out and they clapped for me- I asked what are you clapping for? Does it look like I came from the bottom? They said yes. (There were a lot of fresh faces coming off the trail, but they were just hanging out at the top mostly. Then was another person they clapped for, and I was like "oh yeah, it's obvious that guy had a long day" too. Lol.) I've seen a lot of these grand canyon hiking videos, and one thing a lot of them have in common is: everyone looks relatively good and confident when they reach the bottom. Most ppl are like, I feel great, so far so good, etc. But their day takes a huge U-turn on the way out of the canyon. Most videos are like this. I'm personally better and hiking up than down, because of my knee. And I was looking forward to the up part, but even I was one of those ppl doing a hard grind at the end of the day - it was a suffer-fest on the way out of the canyon. If you are going to do rim to rim in a day, make SURE you know what you are doing.

UA-cam has shut down freedom of speech. You will not reach your max audience. Woke is a joke no doubt. To many people sell worthless merchandise. Logo designs and slogans are normally all wrong and cheaply done. Name brand gear doesn't always work for everyone else. Too many people are being addicted to themselves rather than others. Helping others, volunteering less and those who do not do tithing at all usually get what's coming to them. Save an animal do something different than you're doing. Money doesn't buy happiness. In the wild you need less not more.

Honestly this is not story worthy. The guy got a few scratches like there are so many worse cases than this. This guy got a warning from the bear, he didn’t get attacked.

Dan, first off, my condolences and prayers for you and your family. May God comfort you through this difficult time. Secondly, Like many others have said, your channel is not defined by gear reviews. Its your personality and the quality of your videos that brings me back. You could easily go the KYD route and do family trip videos and I would still be a diehard fan. In bear country, I think I would have my bear spray or gun in hand as much as possible.

Haven’t even made it past where you mention your dad’s passing, and I just want to say how sorry I am.

This isnt the 1st story ive heard about folks spraying themselves in the face. I think a plastic straw glued down the front of the can where the nozzle is would help hand orient the direction its pointed.

In tropical backpacking weight is not really an issue. We prefer cooking full gourmet and extra stuff incase of worst case scenario.

Hey man, I’m so sorry to see this news. The irony of me seeing this and it being Father’s Day hurts me even more for you. I lost my father in 2019 to a work accident. He was my world and life changed so much after. I was 28 at the time and had to take the head of the house to help my mom. I pray you find your way through these rough times.
